Platinum Jubilee collage exhibition offers Adur and Worthing residents a chance to be featured

Anna Brownsted Splitter - artist to create community exhibition collages

20-piece community exhibition to be created by Texas-born artist

Adur and Worthing residents have the chance to appear in new interactive collages alongside Her Majesty to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

At the start of the year, artists were invited to submit proposals for a 20-piece community exhibition to be displayed at Worthing’s Seafront Gallery to mark the Jubilee.

Winning the commission was Texas-born artist Anna Brownsted, who will be creating a series of collages that demonstrate how life has changed over the last seven decades.

Residents’ photos will be interspersed with images of the Queen. Accompanying the collages will be an interactive component that will use a free, downloadable app to animate the artwork through layered video and sound.

Anna said: “Reflecting 20 key points across the Queen’s 70-year reign, each of the colourful collages will combine historical print images of the Queen with contributed and found photographs of Adur and Worthing. These images will be layered together in celebration of the Queen’s life alongside the same historical trajectory of the area’s people and places.”

Residents invited to submit images for Seafront Gallery collages

Residents are being invited to send images or newspaper clippings that sum up what life in Adur and Worthing means to them. Anna is especially looking for pictures of days on the beach with the family, trips to local landmarks, community street parties, or memorable events and festivals.

Anna will also host a series of workshops for people to create their own A5 collages using personal photos and a variety of material provided by the artist. These will then be used to develop the 20 collages for the Seafront Gallery. They will also be photographed by Anna and collated into a book that she will send to Buckingham Palace as a gift to the Queen.

The first workshop will take place at Worthing Museum on Sunday March 20th from 11.30am to 1pm. The second workshop will follow on Sunday March 27th from 11.30am to 1pm.

If you cannot attend a workshop in person you can email your images to [email protected]. The deadline for images to be submitted is April 1st 2022.

The finished work will be exhibited at the Seafront Gallery from the beginning of May until the end of September 2022.
