The deadline to apply for one of the most exciting apprenticeships in Sussex is just one week away, 19 March 2021 as Rampion Offshore Wind Farm operators RWE seek two new wind turbine technician apprentices at the site.
The three-year apprenticeship scheme will enable the selected candidates to develop into technicians working on wind turbines. The first two years will be classroom based at a bespoke Wind Turbine training facility at Llandrillo College, Rhos on Sea, in North Wales. The third year will consist of on-site training at Rampion, based out of the Operations and Maintenance base in Newhaven, East Sussex.
The apprenticeship scheme is run by RWE and the successful application will be part of a group of eleven apprentices from around the UK. If successful, the apprentices will qualifywith an NVQ Level 3 in wind turbine operations and maintenance and a Level 3 Diploma in wind turbine maintenance.
Rampion has already recruited eight apprentices since 2016. Alex Reah from Brighton, graduated in 2019 and now works as a turbine technician at Rampion. Alex said, I really enjoyed my apprenticeship; it gave me the skills and experience I needed to successfully join the Rampion team and I have gone on to achieve further qualifications as an Authorised Technician, so I can now supervise a team.”
He added, “I believe renewables are a vital part in our commitment to combat climate change and it’s something I’ve always personally supported. To be a part of the first offshore wind farm off the coast of my home town is a privilege.”
Rampion General Manager Richard Crowhurst said, “We have always received a huge amount of quality applications for our apprenticeship scheme in the past, and we expect this year to be no different. The offshore wind sector is a growing industry and we are excited to offer this opportunity in our local area.
“Successful applicants will be provided with a comprehensive and well supported learning programme including classroom-based learning and experience on site working with our technicians. Once trained, our apprentices will be able to safely work in an offshore environment, and have an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of complex mechanical and electrical equipment.”
The closing date for applications is 19 March 2021 and the full-time, fixed-term contract will start in September this year.
