NSPCC announce partnership with the Mid Sussex Marathon

Start of the Haywards Heath 10 Mile in Haywards Heath Town Centre 2

This year, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) has been selected as a charity partner for the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend taking place from 23rd-25th May 2020.

The event which is now in its ninth year will see participants tackle a marathon distance over three days. The event will begin in East Grinstead on the 23rd of May with a 10 mile run, Haywards Heath on the 24th with another 10 mile run and finish in Burgess Hill on the 25th with a 10k. Alternatively participants can take part in any one of these as a stand-alone event. Additionally, this year’s participants can also complete a half marathon over the weekend, instead running two 5 mile runs as well as 5k run in the same locations – or again take part in one of the three individual events. There is also a ‘fun run’ and a ‘mile’ event at each location.

The NSPCC are encouraging participants to run in aid of the children’s charity to help raise money to go towards the vital services it provides to children.

Kate Hershkowitz, NSPCC Community Fundraising Manager for Sussex, said: “We are so happy to be the chosen charity for the Mid Sussex Marathon in 2020. We would love those taking part to raise funds to support the NSPCC’s work, including our Speak out Stay safe programme which visits primary schools across Sussex, helping children aged 5-11 to recognise abuse, understand it’s never their fault, and know how to speak out if they need help. It costs just £3 to speak to one child, so any funds runners are able to raise by taking part in this unique event really will make a difference.”

A spokesperson from the Mid Sussex Marathon said: “We are delighted to have NSPCC as the first official charity partner of the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend. We hope that any participants not already affiliated to a charity will consider raising some money for NSPCC, an organisation who carry out outstanding work to protect children and prevent their abuse. Both NSPCC and Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend rely heavily on volunteers so we are hoping that our partnership will highlight just how grateful both organisations are for the support we receive and the opportunities there are for new individuals to get involved.”
