Carers Support West Sussex is urging family and friend carers across the county to learn more about their rights and be empowered to act on them this Carers Rights Day (Thursday 21st November).
The West Sussex charity is putting on a series of events designed to raise awareness of some of the simple steps carers can take to support their caring role and plan for the future.
Supported by local legal advisers; Irwin Mitchell and Bennett Griffin LLP, five ‘Legal Workshops’ are taking place just before and on Carers Rights Day in Worthing, Chichester and Crawley, giving more than 100 carers the chance to listen to expert advice on subjects including Power of Attorney, Wills and Trusts.
Carers Support West Sussex Chief Executive Sonia Mangan said: “We know how important it is for people who are in a caring role for family, friends and members of their community to get the right advice at the right time. Not only do we hear from carers every day how life can be a struggle – recent polling from our national partner Carers UK has shown that as many as 600 people leave employment every day as a result of their caring role.
Help us to help others by talking to someone who you think may have a caring role and encouraging them to contact us; volunteer or indeed work with us; or help us financially (visit carerssupport.org.uk/fundraising/ to donate online) and support this great local charity care for those who care for others.”
As well as the legal workshops, Carers Support West Sussex are releasing a series of short videos, featuring expert legal tips from Ian Macara from Bennett Griffin LLP. These videos are available on the Carers Support West Sussex YouTube Channel. www.youtube.com/channel/UCWEo1g3vn5-uoEWQlUN74pA/videos
The charity will also have information stands at County Mall in Crawley, St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Health, East Surrey Hospital in Redhill and Worthing Hospital. Carers Support invite all to the stands to find out about carers rights.
