Champion Chaser to grace Parham Races

Leading two mile chaser Sire de Grugy, standard-bearer for Jump racing in the South East, is to parade at Parham Races on Saturday March 17th.

Winner of 17 races from his 42 starts, Sire de Grugy was retired last December after a distinguished career that included a Queen Mother Champion Chase in 2014, and Tingle Creek Chases in 2013 and ’15. Trained throughout by Sussex’s leading jumps handler Gary Moore, the horse was ridden in all bar 2 of his starts by son Jamie, Sire de Grugy won £885,446 in prize money over 8 seasons.

In a purple patch during the 2013-14 season, Sire de Grugy won 7 of his 8 starts finishing second on the remaining one. The victory roll started at Chepstow in October and reeled in a Tingle Creek, Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton, Clarence House Chase at Ascot in January, the Champion Chase at Cheltenham and concluded with the Celebration Chase at Sandown in April.

“Parham is a great day out whether you are a lifelong racing fan or dip in and out,” explained Peter McNeile for Parham Races. “There is a keen interest in Sussex’s racing fortunes throughout the county, and we’re chuffed to be able to host one of the county’s champion racehorses and a huge ambassador for the sport during our Point-to-Point meeting. A big thank you to Gary and Sire de Grugy’s owners for sharing this wonderful horse with his adoring public.”
