Lewes District’s vibrant art scene takes center stage once again with the launch of Artwave 2024 on September 7th. This year marks the 31st anniversary of the beloved visual arts festival, which continues to grow and evolve.
Three weekends of art
For three weekends, art enthusiasts can explore 164 free-to-visit venues across the district, including Lewes, Seaford, Newhaven, Peacehaven, and Telscombe Cliffs. The festival welcomes 45 new venues this year, expanding its reach and diversity.

Artwave offers a unique opportunity to discover the work of hundreds of local artists and makers. Exhibitions span an eclectic array of locations, from private homes and windmills to railway signal boxes, farms, and churches. The festival stretches from Ditchling to Herstmonceux and from Cuckmere to Danehill, showcasing the region’s rich artistic tapestry.

Refreshments aplenty
Many venues will enhance the experience with garden refreshments, artist talks, demonstrations, and interactive activities. Visitors can enjoy diverse experiences such as lunching at a rural pottery, watching a puppet show in an artist’s home, or trying their hand at lino printing.
Whether browsing or buying, Artwave provides a platform to purchase directly from artists, supporting the local creative community. The festival caters to all tastes and budgets, offering everything from unique gifts to statement pieces for the home.
The festival is made possible through support from Lewes District Council and local businesses, including headline sponsor Artelium Wine Estate, which will also open as an Artwave venue in Streat, near Ditchling.

Printed Guide
Visitors can plan their Artwave experience using the printed guide available at Lewes and Seaford Tourist Information Centers, Charleston in Lewes, and various venues throughout the district. An online guide is also available at artwavefestival.org.
Artwave 2024 runs from September 7-22, inviting visitors to explore the artistic wealth of this creative corner of East Sussex. With 164 venues across four trails, the festival promises an enriching journey through the local art scene.
