High temperatures across UK
Due to the recent heatwave, temperatures almost hit 40°C across the UK on the 18th and 19th July. The nation’s first ever red extreme heat warning was issued on the 18th, and towns such as Hastings have recorded new all-time highs for day and night temperatures during this period.
Hastings records hottest night
Hastings recorded its hottest night ever on the nights of Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July. Hastings Borough Council’s volunteer meteorologists reported that overnight air temperatures fell to just 23.7°C; the previous highest minimum temperature recorded in the town was back in August 1990, when a minimum overnight temperature of 23.5°C was noted.
Hastings records hottest day
The council’s volunteer meteorologists confirmed the following day that the town had also recorded its hottest day ever on Tuesday 19th July, with its previous highest daytime temperature being 34.2°C, recorded on 25th July 2019. The daytime temperature (measured in shade) peaked at 34.7°C, half a degree hotter than the previous high.
