Starting school is exciting and nerve wracking all at once. Labelling clothes with name tags and trying to make sure your little one is awake and ready for the school run. But do not fear!
As September fast approaches, Home-Start Arun, Worthing and Adur are running a series of summer workshops to help your children develop the skills they need to become confident and ready, for that exciting first day of school. West Sussex County Council believe that we all can ensure children achieve their potential, with a focus on ‘school readiness’ being most important. Outlining that as a county we are underachieving in this area. Ready, Steady, School is a Home-Start initiative, aimed at supporting children to develop the important skills that are necessary when starting school. With the aim of building friendships, establishing routines as well as making a start on early learning goals.
However, these workshops are not only supportive for the children, but the parents and families attending as well. The parent has the opportunity to interact and support their child with the activities provided on the day as well as repeat activities in the home with the aid of supporting resources.
Charlotte Simmons, Senior Organiser for Home-Start said: “Come along! All families are welcome and encouraged to pop in, even if it’s for half an hour of just a chat about how you can encourage school readiness at home. It’s fun for all the family and a way for your child to meet other children potentially going to the same school.”
There will be six workshops running across the summer holidays in both the Kingston Buci Children and Family Centre 23rd, 30th July and 6th August and Lancing Children and Family Centre 14th, 21st and 28th August, all free of charge and run by our trained Home-Start staff and volunteers. They will be at hand to answer any queries, whether practical or emotional. If you are interested in a free morning of exciting activities which are fun for all the family then please call: 01903 889707 to pre-register and receive a free ‘Ready, Steady, School’ goodie bag.
