Worthing Library glass panel installation on Worthing Pier
A glass panel has been added to a permanent installation on Worthing Pier to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Worthing Library re-opening.
The glass panel, produced by Siobhan Jones – Designer Glass, is an interpretation of the new Worthing Library logo which was designed to coincide with the library’s refurbishment in 2021. Siobhan is a local artist from Worthing and has a glass studio at The Forge Gallery. She is the main glass designer for ‘Windows on the pier’ and has created over 200 glass art windows for the project.
Siobhan said: “It has been an eight-year journey to date working on this fabulous project which was initiated by Paul Holden of The Worthing Journal. I have met and worked with some incredible individuals and inspiring groups and charities along the way. It has been an honour to be part of this project which has enriched the town and given so many people a lot of joy”
Windows on the Pier Worthing Journal initiative
‘Windows on the Pier’ is a Worthing Journal initiative and editor Paul Holden’s aspiration is to create a cathedral-like gallery of stunning multi-coloured glass panels that represent local societies, people and projects.
Duncan Crow, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Community Support, Fire and Rescue, said: “The panel, which is now installed on Worthing Pier, is not only a great way to show support for the project run by the Worthing Journal, but also a unique way to commemorate the past, present and future of Worthing Library.
“The library has been an important part of the community for over a century and with its refit bringing a fresh, light and airy atmosphere, we hope residents from around the area will come in and explore what Worthing Library has to offer for another 100 years.”
