A sizzling summer programme of activities gets into full swing in Worthing in the next coming months – with events and special occasions for people of all ages. The town is set to be transformed hosting an array of exciting outdoor circus performances, family workshops, a huge observation wheel and outdoor cinema screenings.
Highlights of Worthing’s summer
The highlights include the return of ‘Summer of Circus’ with a series of free shows outside the Pavilion Theatre on the seafront. All-female acrobatic theatre company Mimbre are back this year with a brand new outdoor production on Saturday 20th July at 11am and 2pm. Lifted is a collection of funny, poetic and surprising moments appearing when three strong women move, lift and balance each other.
Back by popular demand after sell-out performances in 2018, The Giant Balloon Show will also have the audience in stitches, with free to watch displays on August 24th outside the Pavilion at 11am and 2pm. There will also be a chance for kids to take part in a balloon modelling workshop teaching all the skills needed to make unique balloon creations.
After a positive public response to the Observation Wheel last summer, Worthing Borough Council will be introducing a more permanent fixture ready for summer 2019. The Worthing Observation Wheel (WOW), the largest observation wheel on the south coast, is currently being constructed on Worthing seafront, with the opening of the spectacular ride scheduled for July.
Another exciting attraction to return is the Worthing Summer Cinema which will bring a giant LED high-definition screen to Denton Gardens. Three movies a day, including completely free showings, will be screened including the award-winning Bohemian Rhapsody, charming 90’s favourite Matilda, box office smash Mamma Mia! and the critically acclaimed The Favourite.
For those who want to explore their sporty side, free table tennis will be available across the town. Worthing Ping United and Table Tennis England have teamed up to offer a programme of events, with a launch at Denton Gardens in Brighton Road (23rd June at 1pm). Meanwhile, the town’s public bike hire scheme goes from strength to strength. Donkey bikes are situated along the promenade ready for anyone to explore the town and beyond.
