One of the most famous British cult classics, Withnail and I remains as dark, hilarious and superbly written as when it was released.
Originally released in 1987, Bruce Robinson’s famous cult classic Withnail and I follows two unemployed actors, Withnail (played by Richard E Grant) and Marwood (Paul McGann).
Both destitute and desperately in need of a change of fortunes, they decide to go on an idyllic holiday to a cottage in Penrith owned by Withnail’s eccentric uncle, Monty (Richard Griffiths). Things don’t go entirely to plan when the pair run into the unusual characters of the countryside and their holiday gets even more complicated when Monty arrives unexpectedly demanding more than just their company…
We’re very excited to screen this dark comedy classic presented on a very rare 35mm film print – Slindon Cinema is dedicated to ensuring audiences can watch films on true analogue film, in an age of digital and multiplexes. We proudly remain strong in our values for being the true retro cinema experience.
As we don’t have numbered seating in the auditorium, we recommend audience members arrive at around 6:30pm to ensure they get their preferred seats. Our retro bar is open before the show and during the intermission, selling a range of refreshments and locally made ice cream. Unlike conventional cinemas, we don’t run trailers or adverts at the start of our show so the main title will begin after a short introduction to the cinema and that nights feature.
We look forward to welcoming you to the cinema!
