Sissinghurst was created nearly a century ago by the writers Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson as a private home and as a refuge dedicated to natural beauty. Vita, the poet and writer, began transforming Sissinghurst Castle Garden in the 1930s In 1935 they visited the Greek island of Delos. So inspired were they that, on their return to Sissinghurst, they created a new garden, a landscape of ruined stone fragments and Mediterranean plants, which they named Delos in homage. In 2019, working with Dan Pearson, the team began the process of reimaging Vita and Harold’s lost garden of Delos. In this lecture Troy describes the garden they made and the detailed process the team undertook to bring it back.
