What is poetry? This workshop will look at key concepts like rhythm, concision, imagery and sound. We’ll consider the effects of techniques in published poems, including some of John’s work. Writing exercises will explore the technique of freewriting and there’ll be discussion too around keeping notebooks, recycling images and phrases, assembling your own anthologies to learn from and the different ways in which reading widely in poetry can strengthen your own writing.
