Event Date:
Start time: 11:00 Independent nurseries in the south east are coming to Herstmonceux Castle this summer It’s the first time that the Plant Fairs Roadshow will have hosted their sale at Herstmonceux Castle. The Estate, close to the important Pevensey Levels, is a haven for wildlife, butterflies and bees, thanks to a large rewilding project that’s taken hold over the last few years. The grasslands and meadows of the Estate are allowed to grow unhampered during the summer months, encouraging a profusion of meadow grasses, wildflowers and benefiting a host of bees, butterflies, moths and invertebrates. A flock of rare breed Herdwick sheep are used to graze these areas during the winter to develop wildflower establishment and encourage a rich species composition. The Plants Fairs Roadshow will welcome visitors to the famous medieval Castle with an array of important plants as well as a wealth of information on the right plant right place for home gardens.
