At this month’s Men’s Community Breakfast, the speaker will be Brigadier Ian Dobbie OBE.

Brigadier Ian Dobbie OBE was commissioned into the Royal Engineers. His grandfather, Lieutenant General Sir William Dobbie, was Governor of Malta during the siege from 1940-42 when the Island was awarded the George Cross. Ian served in Germany, the Gulf and Northern Ireland as well as being an instructor at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the RAF Staff College, and one in the Ministry of Defence. On retiring from the Army, Ian worked for three years as Project Coordinator and Administrator of a large Anglican Church in Sevenoaks while a E2.35 million building project was undertaken. In 1995 he was appointed as General Secretary of the Council of Voluntary Welfare Work, which coordinates the work of six Christian welfare organisations which support the Armed Services. From 1991-2013 he was Chairman of the Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Scripture Readers Association and was one of the lay representatives for Rochester Diocese on the General Synod of the Church of England for 20 years.
