Event Short Description

Informal breakfast meeting with a talk by Bishop James Jones, retired Bishop of Liverpool.

Event Information

James Jones KBE served as Bishop of Liverpool from 1998-2013. James began his career as a teacher at Sevenoaks School and was a pioneer in implementing community service programmes and co-founded the first volunteer bureau in England. From 1975-1981 he worked as a producer at Scripture Union before embarking on his career in the clergy. His impact on Liverpool life was profound and he consistently spoke up for those without a voice. James was a key figure in the campaign to uncover the truth about the Hillsborough disaster. He chaired the Hillsborough Independent Panel, whose report led to the quashing of the 1989 tragedy’s inquest verdicts. James was made a Knight Commander for his services in this context. He subsequently served as an adviser to the Home Secretary on Hillsborough matters. He also received the Freedom of Liverpool in gratitude for his work.

Men’s Community Breakfasts take place every month.
