Christ’s Hospital Choral Society presents a Jubilee Concert featuring Coronation Anthems performed at royal occasions.

Event Information

Happy and Glorious Jubilee concert songs

‘Zadok the priest’ is one of the songs featured in ‘Happy and Glorious’, the Jubilee concert on 30th April.

The choir will sing the three other Coronation Anthems and other music that was performed at the Queen’s coronation and at other royal occasions.

Handel composed the Anthems for King George II and Queen Caroline’s coronation on 1727, and they have been performed at all subsequent coronations. The biblical text of ‘Zadok’ has been sung at all coronations since King Edgar’s in 973 AD.

Audience participation welcome: There will be opportunities for the audience to help raise the roof by joining in with the choir and sing ‘Jerusalem’ and other songs.

Other events

And for later in the year: A ‘Sing with the composer’ workshop on 14 May at Big School, Christ’s Hospital School. Composer Matthew Coleridge directs the practice of this requiem. Guest singers welcomed, see CHchoralsoc.org for full details.
