Easter weekend at Weald & Downland with Celebratory Baking, Shopping Traditions and an Easter Bonnet Parade

Event Information

Easter at Weald & Downland Living Museum

Enjoy the longer days and warmer weather against the backdrop of Weald and Downland’s 40-acre site in the South Downs National Park. It’s a good place to meet with family and friends in a safe and open air environment.

As well as all the activities taking place throughout the Easter Holidays, on the Easter weekend there will be a chance to explore and experience traditional Easter preparations and celebrations, such as:

  • Celebratory Baking – The Newdigate bakehouse will be making hot cross buns on Good Friday and Saturday, with the Tudor kitchen showing preparations for the celebration of Easter and a bake on Sunday.
  • Shopping Traditions – Explore Tudor shops and markets on Sunday and Monday, which will include a painters and drapers shop as well as traditional market stalls and street food vendor demonstrations.
  • Easter Bonnet Parade – On Monday, younger visitors are invited to make an Easter bonnet, or bring a home-made Easter bonnet, and join the Easter bonnet parade in the market square at 2pm
