Event Short Description

Christina Riggs uncovers the story of the young Pharaoh, Tutankhamun in Treasured, In conversation with Stewart Collins

Event Information

When it was found in 1922, the 3,300-year-old tomb of Tutankhamun sent shockwaves around the world, turning the boy-king into a household name overnight and starting a media obsession that endures to this day.

From culture and academia, to politics and the heritage industry, it’s difficult to imagine the twentieth century without the discovery of Tutankhamun, and yet much of the story remains untold. In Treasured, Egyptologist Christina Riggs interweaves historical analysis with vignettes drawn from encounters with Tutankhamun to offer a bold new history of the young Pharaoh who has as much to tell us about our world as his own.

Professor Christina Riggs is a historian of art and archaeology at Durham University and a fellow of All Souls College, University of Oxford. She is the author of seven previous books, Stewart Collins in conversation on the 6th of November on her new one, Treasured.
