Start time: 10:30 The beautiful Garden at the Old Vicarage in Washington is opening for The National Garden Scheme. Gardens of 3½ acres set around 1832 Regency house (not open). The front is formally laid out with topiary, wide lawn, mixed border and contemporary water sculpture. The rear features new and mature trees from C19, herbaceous borders, water garden and stunning uninterrupted views of the North Downs. The Japanese garden with waterfall and pond leads to a large copse, stream, treehouse and stumpery. Opens for the National Garden Scheme every Thursday from 9th February until 12th October (10.30-4.30). Pre-booking is essential, please visit ngs.org.uk. The garden is also open on Sunday 12th March, Monday 10th April and Monday 28th August (10.30am-4.30pm). For these days you can pre-book or pay at the gate on the day. Admission is £7. Visits also by arrangement 20th Feb to 29th Sept for groups of 10 to 30. The National Garden Scheme have donated millions of pounds to nursing and health charities including Marie Curie, Parkinson’s UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.
