Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow started his career as a fish farmer in Argyll. In 1992 during the Balkan conflict, he and his brother Fergus were moved by scenes of the conflict on television that they took a week’s leave from their jobs and joined an aid convoy travelling to Medjugorje to distribute it.

Following another landmark moment in 2002, when a 14 year old boy said he would like to have enough food to eat and to go to school one day, Mary’s Meals was born.

They serve nutritious school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest countries. A good meal attracts these hungry children into class, giving them the energy to learn and hope for a better future and are already feeding more than 2.4 million children every school day.
