Event Short Description

Inn Signs are so much more than advertising food & drink – find out what they reveal about the past!

Event Information

Inn signs were, and still are, much more than external advertising for food, drink and possibly accommodation. The signs and their brackets reveal patron-age, land ownership, social status, local personalities and events, opening a window to the past. Sussex inn signs are a colourful addition to our urban and rural surroundings and they are still full of meaning in the twenty-first century.

Local historian, Janet Pennington researched this topic for her doctoral thesis 20 years ago and her research took her to pubs all over Sussex: she will offer everyone a lively and entertaining talk. Entry price includes a tot of mead. Cash bar. Organised by Slindon History Society
