Start time: 19:00 How choral music from the Renaissance still flowers in the present Brighton Consort is collaborating with the University of Sussex Chamber Choir to present a programme entitled “Roots and Branches”, which will take place at the end of February in the Meeting House of the University campus at Falmer. The performance will illustrate how choral music from the 16th century Renaissance period still flowers in the present. The centrepiece of the programme will be the famous Mass for Four Voices by William Byrd (1543-1623), which will be sung by the combined choirs. Each ensemble will also contribute pieces that date from the Renaissance up to the present day, including works by Tallis, Morley, Gibbons, Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Holst, William Walton, Jonathan Dove and Dan Forrest (born 1978).
