Screening as part of Kino St Leonard’s DocFest 2021, this is the acclaimed new documentary telling the remarkable and moving story of British composer, folk song collector and soldier George Butterworth (1885 – 1916), whose promising career was tragically cut short when he was killed on the Somme in 1916.
Featuring detailed depictions of Butterworth’s folk song collecting activity in and around Sussex in the Edwardian years, and his close friendship with his contemporary Ralph Vaughan Williams, and classic orchestral performances of Butterwoth’s music including ‘The Banks of Green Willow’ and ‘Rhapsody, A Shropshire Lad’.

The filmmaker will participate in an audience Q&A following this screening.
