Start time: 11:00 Celebrate 200 years of history – and the future – at Chichester Canal this Easter! The Chichester Ship Canal Trust charity is celebrating 200 years since the first formal opening of the canal on 9th April 1822. As part of a season of anniversary events, the Trust is hosting a 200th Anniversary Event on Saturday 9th April. The community celebration event starts at 11am with a gunfire salute from the Fort Cumberland Guard. The Canal Trust is hosting a day of live music, stalls, food, entertainment, children’s activities, water-based displays including 1950’s vintage tugs, canoe club and model boats, and land-based exhibitions which will feature knitted bunting, volunteer stories and a heritage centre display. The day will culminate in a flotilla along the canal arriving at the basin at 3pm.
