Explore the Chichester District on foot this summer with Chichester Wellbeing’s Heartsmart Walks.

The summer walks programme includes an evening walk in Fishbourne which will take place on Thursday 16 August at 6pm. The walk will be led by an experienced Walk Leader and will cover three and a half miles of flat terrain.

Starting at the Fishbourne Centre, the route passes the Fishbourne Channel, St Peter and St Mary Church and Fishbourne Roman Palace, and is a leisurely walk.

Heartsmart Walks run throughout the year and are led by qualified Walk Leaders across the Chichester District. There are walks suitable for all abilities and new walkers are welcome to join at any time.

The walks offer a chance to exercise and meet new people in a safe and friendly environment. Each route offers people the opportunity to walk at their own pace, chat with others, meet new people and enjoy fresh air and beautiful scenery. The walks are ideal for people who are unsure of where to go or those who are nervous about walking alone.

“Summer is the perfect time to be getting out and about in the district,” says Councillor Eileen Lintill, Cabinet Member for Community Services at Chichester District Council. “We are pleased to be able to offer an evening walk in our Heartsmart programme to allow even more people to take part and enjoy walking in our beautiful district.

“Walking has a wealth of benefits and is good for both mind and body. Our Heartsmart Walks are always popular and it’s great to see so many people taking part and seeing the benefits for themselves.”

The latest walk programme can be found online at www.chichester.gov.uk/heartsmart. Printed copies of the programme can be picked from GP surgeries and libraries across the district, and also from Chichester District Council’s offices and The Novium Museum.

People are advised to wear suitable footwear and they may like to bring a drink of water.  The walks do not need to be booked but if the weather is poor, the walk may be cancelled so people are advised to contact Chichester Wellbeing if they are unsure before setting out. Participants will be asked to complete a short registration form before starting the walk.
