Chestnut Tree House, the children’s hospice for Sussex and South East Hampshire, is bringing a brand new walk to Eastbourne this summer, and it promises to be an evening of magic and wonder.
Taking place on Saturday 15 June 2019 and setting off from the Redoubt Fortress in Eastbourne, the walk is set to offer a unique experience. “The Wonder Walk is a 10 mile challenge that combines a stunning seafront and harbour route with interactive pit-stops to leave you feeling uplifted and inspired,” explains Evie White, Events Fundraiser for Chestnut Tree House.
Setting off at 7pm, participants will walk from day to night, reflecting the 24 hour nature of the care Chestnut Tree House offers to local children and families. Three interactive stops along the route will give walkers the chance to experience first-hand some of the fun that children and families have when they are cared for by Chestnut Tree House.
“The thing we hear time and time again is how much the children we care for enjoy their time with us, so we wanted to bring that joy to more people,” says Evie. “Our aim is to combine the magic of twilight and Eastbourne’s stunning promenade with our interactive pit-stops to create an evening like no other.”
The walk will finish back at the Redoubt, where walkers can celebrate their achievement in style. “All of our walkers will have achieved something wonderful,” says Evie. “As well as walking 10 miles, they will have raised vital funds for Chestnut Tree House, meaning we can continue to offer care and support for local children with life-shortening conditions and their families. We are planning a big celebration at the end of the walk to mark that achievement.”
The Wonder Walk replaces the popular Night To Remember, Chestnut Tree House’s midnight walk which took place every year between 2010 and 2017 and raised over £550,000 for the charity. The event didn’t take place last year, and Chestnut Tree House spent the time speaking to previous participants about how they could make the walk bigger and better.
“We have kept all the things previous participants told us they loved about Night to Remember” says Evie. “The Wonder Walk will keep our 10 mile seafront route, our wonderful volunteer marshals and the chance to walk with friends and family, but we have added in some exciting extra elements that we hope people
will love. We will also be opening it up to everyone aged 10 or over so that people can walk with their friends, family, colleagues and neighbours.”
The Wonder Walk will take place on Saturday 15 June at 7pm at the Redoubt Fortress. The walk is open to everyone aged 10 and over (anyone aged under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult) and earlybird registration (before 15 April) costs £15 per person.
