One of Worthing’s oldest businesses will soon be closing its doors forever.
Sadly, Bowers & Wilkins Ltd, the television and Hi-Fi shop at the Thomas a Becket will close at the end of July.
John Bowers & Roy Wilkins served together in the army in the second world war and met when they were posted in Germany.
They discovered a common interest in radio and decided that when the war was over they would set up a shop for amateur radio enthusiasts.
The business expanded into television rentals during the fifties when most people could not afford to buy a TV.
The sixties and seventies saw the boom in Hi-Fi , and Bowers & Wilkins was at the forefront of all the technological developments that were to come.
They have become renowned for their great old-fashioned service and this will surely be missed by hundreds of their loyal customers.
Not many of our businesses survive for seventy-five years, but Paul Wilkins has decided the time is now right to retire.
Watch out for some great bargains in the final few weeks.
