Sussex has a busy August ahead with numerous events happening across the county, and here is a selection of from our listings over the next week.

Art exhibitions feature prominently, including “Me and Mr P” in Worthing which showcases creative works by those affected by Parkinson’s disease and aims to promote art therapy benefits. In Shoreham, textile artist Carrie Donohoe exhibits her experimental machine embroidery and collage creations at the Shoreham Art Gallery. Michelle Dawson reveals her landscape paintings and mixed media works created in her Worthing studio over the past year at the Colonnade House.

Outdoor entertainment options abound, like the Tom Hanks double bill family cinema night on 1st August at Rye Rugby Club supporting the Rye Hospital. Chichester Festival Youth Theatre performs Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at West Dean Gardens. For green thumbs, Lavant Horticultural Society holds its popular annual flower show on 5th August at the Lavant Memorial Hall.

Unusual exhibitions include a private rural life collection from 1900-1960s in Henfield and classic cars at High Salvington Windmill in Worthing. National Garden Scheme’s open charity garden event occurs on 6th August at Whitehanger’s superb six acre rural garden near Haslemere.

Jazz and swing music lovers can enjoy the “Frank and Ella” concert in Eastbourne featuring hits from the Rat Pack and the 17-piece LP Swing Orchestra. Literature enthusiasts will appreciate Chichester Literary Society’s Open Day with author talks at Boxgrove Village Hall. For singles looking to expand their social circles, Hove hosts a foodie-themed “Friends Dating” event on the 3rd at Amici Italian restaurant.
