The 2018 South Downs Poetry Festival launches

An exciting major arts initiative is about to embark on its third year. After two years of organising successful and entertaining poetry events across the region, The South Downs Poetry Festival is all set to launch another year of exciting events.

The 2018 launch takes place on Thursday 22nd March at 7.30pm at Chichester Library, Tower Street, Chichester, PO19 1QJ, when admired poet Tamar Yoseloff is the headline guest. American ex-pat Tamar will be reading from A Formula for Night: New and Selected Poems, plus, of course, favourites from her extensive back catalogue.

Tamar has been nominated for the Ted Hughes Award and is the Chair of Poetry & Spoken Word for the Society of Authors. The programme includes live music on classical guitar from Linda Kelsall-Barnett plus the chance for local South Downs poets to read their own poetry in the Open Mic section.

Festival director Barry Smith says, ‘Do join us for a delightful evening of words and music to get the 2018 South Downs Poetry Festival underway in style. We’ve lots more exciting poetry events lined up for the coming months, with events planned for Arundel, Singleton, Bognor Regis, Waterlooville, Littlehampton, Chichester and, hopefully, Petworth, Lewes, Midhurst and Portsmouth. And we’re adding events all the time so best advice is keep an eye on our website to catch a great evening of poetry near where you live – or take the opportunity to explore the region and go along to somewhere new.’
